Mornington Secondary College offers a comprehensive instrumental and classroom music program which maximises students’ musical abilities and provides opportunities for the development of performance skills, self-esteem and social skills.
In addition to the enjoyment of performing, research shows that playing music contributes to significant improvements in a child’s overall academic achievement, memory, time-management and abstract thinking skills.
The College offers individual and small group lessons on: Percussion, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone and Tuba and Voice. The emphasis is on our concert band program, stage band and instrumental ensembles.
There are a range of fantastic performance opportunities including school concerts, Battle of the Bands competition and numerous community events. We also teach students skills in songwriting and music technology including sound mixing and recording and the College has facilities for professional audio recording and production.

The Performing Arts
Mornington Secondary College has a proud tradition of producing spectacular performances such as Seussical, The Wiz, Peter Pan, Sound of Music and Grease. The production is open to students in all year levels, who are encouraged to participate in all aspects of the production, such as set design and construction, choreography, sound mixing and lighting and costumes to enable the them to take as much responsibility as possible for key areas. Months of preparation culminate in a three-day camp where the students and teachers all work together on the rehearsals, costumes, music and sets.
It is an amazing experience which fosters cross age relationships, self esteem and provides valuable front and backstage skills, such as: acting, singing, stage management, sound, lighting, costume and set design, advertising, film production, front of house, backstage props, supervision, event coordination, team work, leadership, communication and time-management.
